Our Labs Available for Adoption

The labs listed on this page are always changing. Every day labs are adopted and new labs join us while they wait for their new forever home. If you are interested in adopting one of these labs from Lab Rescue, please fill out our adoption application and send it to us online (or by fax or mail). Lab Rescue of the LRCP asks that you read about the entire adoption process before submitting your application. We often receive questions about why so few labs are approved for young children. You can read about how we make that determination in the adoption process section of the website. Please note that the website is not the most up to date source of information. Some labs may have been adopted before the website shows them as adopted.

Lab Rescue LRCP rescues and places dogs in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and northeast North Carolina (30 miles east of I-95 and north of the Pamlico Sound). Adopters must travel to Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC, with their family – human and canine – to meet the dog they want to adopt.

If you live outside of the Lab Rescue service area and would like to adopt, please review the list of rescues elsewhere in the country, available at www.thelabradorclub.com, do a Google search on Lab Rescue and your location, or search on Petfinder.com or Adoptapet.com to find a rescue who places Labs near you.

Apply Online

You can complete your application online using our easy to complete form. Once complete, your application will be forwarded to an Adoption Coordinator. It can take a week and more for your Adoption Coordinator to be in touch.

Arctos (#170164)

Arctos is a 2 yr old chocolate neutered male.  He weighs 66 lbs, is up to date on vaccinations and is heartworm negative.  He is good with dogs but unknown with cats.  Arctos is approved for ages 10 and up.  Arctos is a handsome boy. He is high energy and would benefit from an active adoptive family. He enjoys going to doggie daycare once a week and then gets daily walks during the week. He is house and crate trained. Like all young labs he would benefit from an obedience class. He does know basic commands. He loves to play ball and swim.

Ben (#170218)

Ben is a 2 yr old yellow neutered male.  He weighs 55 lbs, is up to date on vaccinations and is heartworm negative.  He is good with dogs but unknown with cats.  Ben is approved for ages 10 and up.  Ben is very people oriented and would rather be with people than out playing. He thinks he should be a LapLab. Ben takes treats gently and has a good appetite. He is a very sweet boy, rides nicely in the car and is ok on leash.

BJ (#170085)

BJ is a 1 yr old yellow male.  He weighs 38 lbs and is heartworm negative.  He is good with dogs, unknown with cats and approved for ages 10 and up.  BJ arrived last weekend and during his wellness exam, it was discovered he has a significant heart murmur, grade 5 out of 6.  We visited the cardiologist and the news wasn't good.  He cannot be treated with medications, nor can he have surgery.  Somehow, all the dysfunctional components of his little heart have managed to find a way to work together.  We don't know how long BJ will be with us.  It could be months, or it could be years.  Of course, he doesn't know what's going on and he's living in the moment acting like a typical puppy.  He loves to go for walks, play, eat treats, but most of all he loves to cuddle with anyone who will let him jump on their lap.  He also knows how to sit to take treats very gently.  We're looking for a very special family who is ready to fall in love with BJ and allow him to have the best time of his life.

Update from BJ's Foster Family - Mar 1, 2017: BJ is the sweetest dog I have ever had. Such a gentle love bug. He's not crazy jumping out of control. His prey drive is very strong for cats and squirrels! He loves and snuggles very gently. In the yard, BJ likes to carry a ball in his mouth and looks just so cute! He needs to be reminded that he can't run around out of control with the other dogs, so he will do best in a home with calm dogs, or as the only dog. He is just so awesome, I wish everyone could share a day with him!!!!

Bob (#170018)

Bob is a 4 yr old neutered black male.  He weighs 55 lbs, is up to date on vaccinations.  He was heartworm positive and now has completed his treatment and is beginning his post treatment rest period.  Bob is easy going dog that loves to be with you.  So far he hasn't been interested in playing with toys or retrieving but that will come with time now that he is with Lab Rescue.  Bob is very interested in food but he is very polite about it: he doesn't guard his food, doesn't beg and didn't countersurf at their home.  He doesn't like any fruits or vegetables- raw or cooked- and will spit them out.  He was not always gentle when taking treats, so his owners need to figure out which way works best and be consistent.  He is a quiet dog and rarely barks inside, but may whine if there is something he wants.   Bob loves his walks- almost as much as food. He will bark at other dogs- but not in an aggressive way- and after he does bark, he has a little swagger in his step.  He does have a penchant for dirty socks, so he is a constant reminder to pick up after yourself. He isn't destructive but may stop and taste something that looks interesting, so he does need toys and needs to be taught which things do belong to him.  He is a delightful dog, full of personality who loves to be with you.  He would love a family that has a house with a yard they can play with her in and give him the love and attention he deserves.

Bruno (#170260)

Bruno is a 7 month old chocolate neutered male.  He weighs 39 lbs, is up to date on vaccinations and is heartworm negative.  He is good with dogs and cats. Bruno is approved for ages 10 and up.  Bruno is a sweet and friendly pup looking for a family to show him love and take him on exciting adventures. This little guy rides well in the car and crates well. He walks fairly well on the leash. He is a typical puppy who will need to go to obedience training and have regular exercise.

Buddy (#170026)

Buddy is a 2 yr old neutered black male.  He weighs 49 lbs, is up to date on vaccinations and is heartworm positive.  Lab Rescue will pay for treatment if treated at one of our authorized vets.  Buddy is good with dogs but not cats.  He is approved for ages 10 and up.  Buddy has had a rough start but things are going to be a lot better for him now.  Since he came into Lab Rescue he has made a lot of friends.   The kennel staff have given him a lot of attention and love.  He has learned to relax around new people and is good around other dogs.  He is still a little slow to share toys with other dogs if he gets one he does want to give it up but will if you trade him for another one.  Buddy needs a home that has a fenced yard so he can play and run around without wandering off.  He will make some lucky family a wonderful companion.

Update from Buddy's Foster Family - Feb 27, 2017: Buddy is really blossoming. He has started playing with the resident lab. He loves his toys and chasing a tennis ball. Buddy loves to cuddle, sleep with you and isn't an early riser. You would never know he is a tripod the way he runs around the house and the backyard. He is a great car rider and is well behaved in pet friendly stores.

Update from Buddy's Foster Family - Feb 20, 2017: Buddy is a stunning 2 year old black lab. He had his left, front leg amputated on January 17, but don't tell Buddy that. He can do anything a four legged lab can do. He loves to play with a tennis ball by himself, batting it around the house and chasing it. Buddy doesn't have any problems with hardwood floors. He can jump up on sofas and beds. He loves to sleep with you.

Update from Buddy's Foster Family - Feb 13, 2017: Buddy has had a rough start but things are going to be a lot better for him from now on. Since he came into Lab Rescue he has made a lot of friends all the kennel staff who have given him a lot of attention and love. He has learned to relax around new people and is good around other dogs. He is still a little slow to share toys with other dogs if he gets one he does want to give it up but will if you trade him for another one.. Buddy went to a foster where he did well but came back as the foster had cats and Buddy tried to get them. Foster told me she would have adopted him if he was good with her cats. Buddy needs a home that has a fenced yard so he can play and run around without wandering off. He will make some lucky family a wonderful companion. He just went to another foster (without cats) today

Kids 10 and up as we have no history. Good with other dogs. No cats he will chase them and more. Knows sit, and come. Okay on lead. Crate trained and is about 95% house trained, waits to go outside to go.

Callie (#170236)

Callie is a 2 yr old chocolate spayed female,  She weighs 57 lbs, is up to date on vaccinations and is heartworm negative.  She is good with dogs but unknown with cats.  Callie is approved for ages 6 and up.  Callie is a sweet, friendly and active girl looking for the right family! She is great with everyone, dogs, people and kids! Callie is house and crate trained. She usually slept in her crate at night. She is high energy and will need lots of regular exercise in her new home. She knows basic commands but will benefit from an obedience class like most young dogs. She absolutely loves attention and wants to be the center of your attention.

Cubby (#160715)

Cubby is a 1-1/2 yr old chocolate neutered male.  He weighs 64 lbs, is up to date on vaccinations and is heartworm negative.  He is good with dogs but no cats for Cubby.  Cubby is approved for ages 10 and up.  Cubby is a gorgeous boy who has been waiting for a family for a while. He recently has been working with a trainer and is doing well. He is good on leash but we have been working on his reactivity on leash. Cubby does not like to interact with other dogs much. He's not the type of dog that will enjoy going to a dog park. He prefers to bond with his humans and play in the yard with them instead. He loves to play fetch and loves toys. He will need an experienced adopter who will recognize that he doesn't want to meet every dog that they see. He has learned many commands and will listen to his handler attentively. Cubby will do best as an only dog in a family where he can be the center of attention. Cubby is full of love to offer. He absolutely loves to snuggle and go for car rides. He gets excited thinking about what his next adventure may be.

Daisy #3 (#160289)

Daisy is an 11 year old spayed yellow female who is current on vaccines and heartworm negative. This sweet senior who used to do field trials in her younger days is in need of some TLC after a rough few years. She is good with dogs but would prefer to be a solo dog or with another very submissive dog. She is good with cats and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. Daisy weighs 54 pounds. Since coming to Lab Rescue she has perked up considerably thanks to good nutrition and finally getting the veterinary care she needed. She should not be crated, must go to a home with a fenced in yard (no invisible fences) and have people who are not gone for long periods, because this girl loves company.

Watch silly Daisy with her new food-dispensing ball.

Update from Daisy's foster family - March 22, 2017:

Daisy is such a doll! She has settled in nicely to her foster home and is loving playing ball in the yard. She's a wonderful house guest and doesn't ask for much - just a bit of fetch and some love.

Danno (#170198)

Danno is a 2 yr old yellow neutered male.  He weighs 47 lbs, is up to date on vaccinations and is heartworm positive.  Lab Rescue will pay for treatment if treated at one of our authorized vets.  He is good with dogs but unknown with cats.  Danno is approved for ages 10 and up.  Danno is the sweetest boy! He has great manners, no jumping or mouthing. He is great in his crate and is house trained. Danno loves other dogs but especially loves to hang out with his people. Danno is easy on leash and a great rider.

Duke #6 (#160767)

Duke is a 5 yr old neutered black male.  He weighs 52 lbs, is up to date on vaccinations and is heartworm negative.  He is good with dogs but unknown with cats.  Duke is approved for ages 10 and up.  Duke is a happy dog who likes to be with you getting attention and having his butt scratched.  He is happy hanging out with you and hasn’t shown an interest in playing with toys or retrieving, but we can fix that.  He needs a family that will give him love, attention and exercise.  He needs a fenced yard as he was a stray found wandering.  He knows sit and come sometime down and pulls some on lead, but is good with an Easy Walk Harness.  He seems to be house trained as he waits to go outside to go.
Duke is a sweet snugglebug who could use some more groceries on his frame. He is crate trained, but behaves very nicely in the house and sleeps soundly all night through. He is housebroken and leash trained, but he is a little cautious on walks in new places, so his new owner will need to be patient and reassuring. Duke is a great car passenger too. Duke does retrieve and enjoys his toys. Duke does have a strong prey drive, so no cats or toy/miniature dogs in the home, please. He did get along great with his Jack Russell terrier sibling so that must be the size that he recognizes as dog, not critter.

Duke #2 (#170146)

Duke is a 9 mo old black neutered male.  He weighs 61 lbs, is up to date on vaccinations and is heartworm negative.  He is good with dogs but unknown with cats.  Duke is approved for ages 6 and up.  Duke is delightful, full of personality, he loves to be with you and to get petted. He likes to play with kids and is active but not hyper. He is just learning to retrieve, chases the ball and brings it back once in a while. He is good with his toys and has stuffed animal that have survived for months which is unusual for a pup his age. He knows sit, come and sometimes down.  He pulls some on lead.  Duke would like to have a family that will give him love, attention and training.
Apr 19, 2017: Duke is a typical young lab who can get mouthy when excited; he just needs someone to be firm, yet patient, with him and use sound training techniques with him. He is a character and it's fun to watch him blossom.

Floyd (#160344) and Harvey (#160345)

Floyd and Harvey are a bonded pair and will be adopted together. Floyd is a 6 year old neutered male mixed breed who weighs 51 pounds and Harvey is a 7 year old neutered black male lab who weighs 58 pounds. Both are current on vaccines and heartworm negative. These two will need a yard with a physical, not invisible, fence. Floyd is a bit shy with people initially but he warms up quickly. He is good on leash, walking right beside his human and knows numerous commands. Harvey knows lots of commands, too, but because he is a social butterfly eager to meet and greet, he will need an easy walk harness for walks. Harvey loves to retrieve. Both are good with dogs, unknown with cats and approved for ages 10 and up. Both of the guys are fully trustworthy around the house and do not need to be crated.

Update from Floyd & Harvey's foster family Aug 13, 2016:

Happy Harvey and Five-o-Clock-Shadow Floyd (my newest nickname for him) have been enjoying themselves with toys or laying out in the sun. They are so easy--and eager--to please! These boys demand so little, and are ready for their forever family!

Aug 3, 2016: Harvey and Floyd took a walk with their fosters yesterday. Harvey walks ok and needs some correction, but he does not try to run or act wild. He wants to walk ahead a little but he didn't seem to be pulling. Floyd is calm and heels on his own. Floyd has a bit of a fear of thunderstorms and hides until they are over. He prefers dark corners in the basement where is quieter. Harvey loves chasing a ball and he sometimes tries to get Floyd to play. They will play a little bit. The boys are really are so well behaved and you can easily tell that really love one another. They wait for each other in the yard and go in and outside together. They are very low maintenance, lovable pups.

Update from Floyd and Harvey's Foster Family - Sept 18, 2016: They are a low-maintenance bonded pair who get along with the two resident canines. They love lounging, playing inside and outside, and getting belly and butt rubs.

Super low maintenance and and they love playing outside. They know basic commands and like playing with squeak toys. Floyd and Harvey like snoozing on the couch and hanging out with their people.

Update from Floyd and Harvey’s Foster Family -  Nov 7, 2016: Floyd and Harvey are a low-maintenance bonded pair with great house manners.

FLOYD, a 51-lb, 6-year-old neutered male mixed breed, is calm and a tad shy, which means he lets you take the lead. He doesn’t walk in front of you indoors or outdoors. He knows how to get comfy! He loves rolling up blankets into pillows and loves pieces of sardines with his meals.

HARVEY, a 58-lb, 7-year-old neutered black lab, is playful and always smiling. He is a social butterfly. He tries to provoke Floyd (or you) to play. But he does know when to lay down and relax. He loves begging for belly rubs and to retrieve. He will come over to you, throw himself down and roll onto his back. He needs a harness for walks.

Commands: sit, down, give paw, get toy. Good with other dogs!

Helen is a 6 year old spayed chocolate female.  She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative.  She is approved for kids aged 10 and up and should go to a home without cats.  She weighs 60 lbs Her blindness is caused by diabetes which is now under control; she will need to be on insulin injections and blood glucose monitoring for the rest of her life. In mid- June, Lab Rescue will have surgery performed that will, we hope, restore the sight in one of her eyes.  Helen is learning to love toys and is getting healthier every day.  She's  bundle of love and energy and we can't wait to see what happens once her sight is restored.

Update from Helen’s Foster Family -  Nov 7, 2016: HELEN is the sweetest chocolate shadow. She has perfect house manners, loves the car, walks, all humans and her squeaky babies. Helen doesn't see very well from untreated diabetes and needs insulin shots twice a day. She's not a fan of dogs that get in her face, but loves her humans. She walks well on an Easy Walk harness, and is approved for townhome living.

Update from Helen's Foster Family - Nov 18, 2016: 6 year old HELEN wants to know if she can be your chocolate shadow. Update from Helen's Foster Family - Dec 31, 2016: Helen recently spent the holidays in her vacation foster home while her foster mom was away. Her vacation fosters said she was such a good girl in their home and giving insulin wasn't a problem. Helen even jumped in the mail truck wanting a ride. Helen is a super sweet chocolate shadow looking for her forever home as an only dog.

Update from Helen's Foster Family - Jan 16, 2016: Helen continues to be doing well in her foster home. Her fosters describe her as perfect in the house and a low maintenance girl. Helen is a very affectionate girl! She is good about her insulin shots and eye drops. Watch how easy it is to give her insulin here: https://youtu.be/7ig0CVLAugQ

Hershey Lee (#170137)

Hershey Lee is a 2 year old neutered chocolate male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is unknown with cats. He is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He is a long-legged, lean and energetic guy who needs lots of space to run and play and would make a great running partner.  Hershey Lee likes everyone he meets. He is a cuddly guy when he winds down from a nice play session.

Update from Hershey Lee's foster family Mar 28, 2017:

Hershey Lee is loving life at his foster's. He loves to go for walks (and runs!) and even completed a 5k with his foster mom over the weekend. He would make a phenomenal running partner. He loves his canine foster sister and they play great together. He's even gone for runs and walks with his foster sister and keeps pace nicely. He is great on leash. He's doing very well without a fence and just getting walks/runs daily, so with an appropriate exercise plan he doesn't require a fence.

Izzy #2 (#170092)

Izzy is a 2 year old spayed black female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and cats and she needs to go to a home with another dog for company.  Izzy is approved for kids aged 10 and up and is a wee girl at just 30 lbs.  She walks best with an EZ Walk harness.  She knows a number of commands already including sit, down, wait, up and easy.  She loves long walks, hikes and playing chase.  She loves her people and is a cuddler who would like to join you in bed.  Izzy can jump a 4 foot fence so Lab Rescue is requiring a 6 foot fence for this girl.  She needs a non-smoking houehold and she really does not like cigarette smoke.

Update from Izzy's foster family Mar 4, 2017:

We can't stop talking about how she is such a cute little girl. She LOVES toys, the resident lab and her human foster brother. She's house broken, doesn't need a crate, take treats super gently and LOVES to snuggle. She's just a little bit, weighting only 31lbs. Izzy is looking for a home with another playful dog. Won't you make her yours?

Jep (#170201)

Jep is a 6 year old neutered black male.  He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm positive; Lab Rescue will pay for his treatment at one of our authorized vets.  He is good with other dogs and is unknown with cats.  He is approved for kids aged 10 and up and weighs 71 lbs. Jep is delightful, full of personality, he loves to be with you and to get petted. He is an active but not hyper. Hasn't retrieved yet but likes to play with Nylabone's and Kong's. Jep needs an owner who will give the attention, love and exercise he needs. Should have a fenced yard as he is not a dog that will get enough exercise on walks alone.

Noelle (#160807)

Noelle is an 8 year old spayed black female.  She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative.  She is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up.  No cats. She weighs 99 lbs and needs to lose about 20 (I'm sure we can all empathize).  She's clearly been neglected for some time; her nails haven't been trimmed and her weight has made it challenge for her to move around too much. But, she's a super girl who's really happy.

Update from Foster: Maggie loves to go outside. She walks best with an Easy Walk harness. She doesn't worry about other dogs on walks or even small critters (except she doesn't like cats). She loves toys, and enjoys ice cubes, which is fortunate since she needs to slim down her waistline.

Check out Quincy at a recent Adoption Event

Quincy, a chocolate neutered male, weighs 87 pounds is current on vaccines, and heartworm negative. He is 7 years old and is a "gentle giant" who melts with contentment when someone loves on him. He is also good in the car and walks okay with a harness. Because he is not used to the hustle and bustle of the city, he must go to a detached, single family home in the suburbs or a rural area.

Update from Quincy's foster on Oct 14, 2016: Quincy can't wait to meet his new family and get settled in for the holidays. He loves cookies and his people! If you are looking for a sweetheart of a chocolate, Quincy is your man. He's a well behaved velcro boy! He loves cuddles and squeaky toys!

Update from Quincy's Foster- Aug 5, 2016:  Tall, chocolate, and handsome! I'm Quincy, and I can't wait to be your loyal velcro dog. I don't like other dogs or cats, but you're my favorite. I love cookies and naps, and hanging out outside.

Riley is a champion snuggler who loves to be with his people.  He has terrific house manners and was very gentle and loving with his elderly owners.  Riley is not used to being left alone so his ideal home would have a human home more than not.  Riley is not that fond of other dogs so his adopter needs to have a fenced yard where he can run and burn some energy rather than depending on walks or dog parks.  He would be happiest in the country where he doesn’t feel the need to protect his family from cars, people and other dogs.

Yeti is a happy, adorable pup who loves attention and to be petted.  She enjoys retrieving and is very fast when she goes to get her toy.  Walks best with an easy walk harness.  Yeti is crate trained.  When she is out of the crate, she needs to be watched carefully as she has been known to put household objects in her mouth.  Because she is a youngster, she will have a training addendum but this smarty already knows sit, come, down and is working on stay.
